Very true. That’s the main reason I wrote this post. I think we, as web people, forget to go over basic concepts with clients because we feel they probably already know. I think they call it ‘the curse of knowledge’.

Thanks for the reply David. Yes, I think that originality in the context of the clients industry is key when attempting to differentiate them from their competitors. Love your work btw! - How to compete with crowdsourcing
Thanks Lisa. Glad you liked it.I think many designers get a little too bent out of shape sometimes with the whole crowdsourcing thing. Kind of a knee-jerk reaction. I know I did. Much better to focus on how you can adapt to the marketplace, I think.
- How to compete with crowdsourcing
Thanks for your comment, Erik.I agree, great customer service is key. It’s probably the best differentiator between us and our undercutting friends.
- A Rant on Templates
I agree. That’s one of the main reasons I wrote this post. A friend of mine had a website done for them and at the bottom of the site was the logo of the company that did the ‘design’. The logo didn’t match the quality of the site whatsoever. There was a huge disconnect. So I check out the designers site and sure enough I saw the same template they used on my friend’s site on another site for a completely different industry. Also, it was obvious that this designer’s site was a template. I just think it’s a little disingenuous.

Well said. Unfortunately too many clients believe that, if you launch it, they will come. This is almost never the case, unless you’ve had a pre-existing marketing blitz prior to a site’s launch.
These 6 simple steps are a great starting point for anyone looking to “get the word out”.
Interesting article. I will use some of these tips for sure.
